Chennai: The ‘Q’ branch of Tamilnadu police has arrested an ‘IS man’ suspected to be involved in the murder of Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) Wilson at Kerala-Tamilnadu border in Kanyakumari on 8 January.
According to police, the suspected IS terrorist was identified as A Shaik Dawood (32). He hails from a fishing hamlet in Ramanathapuram. He was arrested in the wee hours of today.
According to sources, he was hiding in an abandoned hamlet to avoid arrest. Police had listed him as a wanted suspect in the murder of SSI Wilson as Shaik Dawood is said to to have helped the policeman’s killers financially.
The killers, Abdul Shameem (29) and Thoufeeq (27) from Thiruvithancode near Nagercoil in Kanyakumari were arrested from Uduppi Railway Station, Karnataka, days after they shot at an unarmed Wilson while he was on duty at Kaliyakkavilai check post.
Shaik Dawood had transferred funds to Abdul Shameem’s bank account in his father’s name, sources say.
Sources claimed that the attack was carried out as terrorists wanted to take revenge on the Tamilnadu police and State administration who hindered their weapons smuggling activity and arrested their counterparts in Delhi. They thought that shooting a policeman would create fear among the force.
