Chennai: Tamilnadu Higher Education Minister K P Anbazhagan has refuted reports which claimed that he was tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to a private hospital at Manapakkam in Chennai.

“I was suffering from ordinary fever only. I went to hospital only because of it. I have not tested positive for Covid-19. I am fine now,” he was quoted as saying by television channels.

Earlier, after reports claimed that he was tested positive for coronavirus, tension prevailed among top circles, as Anbazhagan had attended a Covid-19 preventive and control measures review meeting held at Rippon building on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by Ministers including SP Velumani, D Jayakumar, R Kamaraj and C Vijayabaskar and senior officers including Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Prakash, Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan etc.

Meanwhile, DMK president M K Stalin has tweeted: “After coming to know that Anbazhagan was affected by Covid-19, I contacted him over phone and enquired about his health condition. I wish him speedy recovery to resume his work for the people. Those in public life should be more careful”.

Recently, a legislator of the ruling AIADMK tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to a private hospital.

Sources said AIADMK MLA K Palani, representing Sriperumbudur in the State Assembly, had tested positive.

He was the second MLA in Tamilnadu to test positive after Opposition DMK Legislator J Anbazhagan, who later succumbed to Covid-19.
