Chennai: A 19-year-old girl ended her life fearing failure in the upcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Coimbatore.
The student, identified as R Subhshri, was taking coaching classes for the past two years to clear the exam. Her death comes a day after the Supereme Court dismissed a petition to postpone entrance tests such as NEET and JEE due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The court was of the view that the career of students cannot be risked and, “they cannot waste their precious years”. The exam is scheduled for 13 September.
Subhashri, daughter of an ITI staff and a resident of RS Puram was found hanging in her room yesterday.
Subhashri had appeared for the NEET 2019 exam and did not score the cut off mark. She was also attending coaching classes in a private academy in her neighbourhood.
According to preliminary investigations, she had gone into her room in the morning and did not open the door for hours.
Her worried parents and relatives broke open the door they found her hanging. Her body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
In 2017, S Anitha, a native of Ariyalur district committed suicide after she failed to cleared the NEET exam despite scoring a good per centage in her board exam. Her death caused a major controversy in Tamilnadu over NEET.
