Polls first, Plus Two exams next in TN?

Chennai: With the Directorate of Government Examinations today announcing the timetable for the Higher Secondary Second Year (Plus Two) exams, speculations are rife that Assembly elections in the State would be conducted before the exams.

A circular issued said that the exams will begin on 3 May and will go on till 21 May. Following this, it is being rumoured in political circles that the polls would take place in April.

The DGE said exams will commence at 10 am and will end at 1.15 pm. More than eight lakh students are scheduled to appear for the examination this year. Usually, the exams will begin in the first week of March. This year, they are delayed by two months.

The exam will be held for seven days with two days gap between each paper. The 12th exams 2021 will begin with a language paper on 3 May and end with the Chemistry, Accountancy, and Geography papers on 21 May.

A maximum gap of five days has been provided between the fourth and fifth days of exams. DGE TN will conduct the fourth exam on 11 May and the fifth exam on 17 May. In the year 2020, a total of 7,99,717 Lakh students had registered for the TN 12th exam.

A total of 92.34 per cent of students had passed the Tamilnadu class 12th board exam 2020. Looking at the stream-wise results of TN plus two exams 2020, science stream students had recorded the highest pass percentage of 93.64. Students of commerce stream had recorded a pass percent of 92.96 while in the arts stream, the pass percentage was 84.65.

The vocational stream had recorded a 79.89 per cent pass percentage. Among the districts of Tamilnadu, Tiruppur stood first with a pass percent of 97.12 per cent followed by Erode with 96.99 pass percentage, and Coimbatore with 96.39 per cent.

It is to be noted that schools for Class 9 to 12 students in the State were reopened from 19 January.

The decision to allow reopening of schools after nearly 10 months was taken by the State government after holding several review meetings with officials and parents.
