New Delhi: A Delhi Court has granted bail to actor-activist Deep Sidhu who is an accused in the 26 January violence case.
Deep Sidhu was arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the violence at the Red Fort during farmers’ tractor rally on Republic Day.
He was arrested in February from Karnal in Haryana by the Delhi Police Special Cell days after a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his arrest was announced.
On Monday, the court had reserved its order on the bail application of Deep Sidhu after the two sides, the actor activist’s counsel and the public prosecutor representing the Delhi police, argued over his role in the violence at the Red Fort during the protesting farmers’ tractor rally.
During the last hearing, Deep Sidhu had submitted in the court that he did not give any call to agitating farmers to go to Red Fort.
Sidhu also said that the call for protest was given by farmer leaders and that he was not a member of the farmer union. His lawyer submitted in the court that there’s no evidence that Sidhu had mobilised the crowd. Deep also submitted that he had not indulged in a single act of violence.
