Chennai: The government is drawing criticism over the appointment of Dindigul Leoni, infamous for his sexist remarks against women, as Head of Tamilnadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation.
PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday urged the State government to withdraw its decision to appoint Leoni as Chairman of Tamilnadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation.
“Appointing Dindigul I. Leoni as the Chairman of Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation is an insult to the position. Leoni is someone who has constantly made distasteful remarks about women,” Anbumani tweeted.
He added: ‘What will Leoni know about education, the one who talks about women’s bodies and their waist? The job of the textbook company is to produce textbooks that develop knowledge. What will be the fate of the students who read the textbooks produced under the leadership of Leoni?’
While canvassing for Karthikeya Sivasenapathy in Coimbatore during Assembly elections campaign, Leoni had remarked that women’s figures no longer resemble the number ‘8’ because they drink the milk of foreign cows nowadays.
He had also compared women’s bodies to barrels, saying that they cannot carry their children on their hips because they are overweight.
