Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has ordered a Crime Branch-CID probe into the multiple sexual assault of a 22-year-old dalit woman in the southern Virudhunagar district.
Responding to Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami of AIADMK, who raised some of the incidents concerning Law and Order, Stalin said soon after receipt of the complaint, eight accused were
arrested within 24 hours.
Of them four were remanded in judicial custody and sent to prison, while the other four were school students and were sent to Juvenile homes, he said.
He said to fast track the probe, the investigation into the case was transferred to the CB-CID and Superintendent Mutharasi has been appointed as the Special Officer to probe the matter.
The chargesheet will be filed within 60 days before a Special Court and maximum punishment will be secured for the accused, the Chief Minister assured and said that he has directed the State Director General of Police to treat it as a ‘Model Case’ and directly monitor the investigation.
‘Wait and see. How this government is going to get punishment for the accused. It will be a leading case not only in Tamilnadu but also in India in which the accused gets punishment in a speedy manner and that will be a lesson for all those who commit such offences’, Stalin said.
It may be recalled that eight people, including four school students, were arrested yesterday for gang raping a 22- year-old dalit woman, multiple times over a period of seven months in Virudhungar district.
