Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday released water from Mettur Dam for Cauvery Delta irrigation.

This is the third time in recent years that the dam is being opened on the set date without any delay. In 2022, the DMK government threw open the dam on May 24, much before the designated date set decades ago, due to enough availability of water at the reservoir. Farmers of 12 districts of the Cauvery delta belt will benefit with the dam opening. farmers have appealed to the government to get the due share from Karnataka. The farmers in the Cauvery delta belt will be cultivating Kuruvai, Samba and Thalady in 17.37 lakh acres of farmland.

Salem district collector S. Karmegam and Ministers Durai Murugan, KN Nehru, and Pannerselvam also participated in this event.
