The Tamil Nadu government is set to turn Chennai’s biggest 85-acre wholesale vegetable and fruits market into a commercial centre which will include swanky office spaces, a retail mall, a multi-purpose sports facility, and a 5-star hotel. The decision was taken based on the study conducted by Cushman and Wakefield, a leading global real estate services firm, the consultant appointed by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to prepare feasibility for the redevelopment of Koyambedu Market.
The consultancy has suggested shifting it to Thirumazhisai as Koyambedu has become too congested.
