Annamalai University sacked 56 faculty members who didn’t have the minimum qualifications prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) at the time of their appointment. Following the audit objection and direction from the higher education department, the syndicate of the university decided to dismiss the faculty members. “The decision is part of corrective measures for financial stability and administrative streamlining,” a university official said. The university is also streamlining the anomalies in the appointment of non-teaching appointments. It had many surplus teaching and non-teaching staff when the state government took it over in 2013 following allegations of mismanagement. @@@@
