In response to the tragic incidents of leopard attacks in the Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each to the families of the victims. The compensation aims to support the affected families during this challenging time and alleviate some of the financial burdens they may face. The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in these unfortunate incidents. The attacks occurred on December 29, when P Saritha, a 29-year-old resident of Elamanna village in Mango Range, Nilgiris, fell victim to a leopard attack and tragically succumbed to the injuries. In another heart-wrenching incident on January 6, a three-year-old girl named S Nancy lost her life due to a leopard attack. These incidents have raised concerns about human-wildlife conflict in the region and the need for measures to mitigate such occurrences. As the government extends its support to the victims’ families, discussions on strategies to enhance wildlife conservation and promote coexistence between humans and animals gains momentum.
