Anna University is preparing to send a detailed report to the Tamil Nadu Governor’s office following allegations of irregularities in the affiliation process of private engineering colleges. This decision comes in response to a circular from the Raj Bhavan and a series of allegations leveled by the NGO Arappor Iyakkam.
Arappor Iyakkam recently exposed alleged malpractices, revealing that 353 full-time faculty members were found to be on the payrolls of more than one college. The NGO’s representative, Radhakrishnan, stated that the allegations’ report copies have been sent to the Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister’s Cell, Higher Education Department, University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Ministry of Education.
Sources from Anna University indicated that the decision to send a detailed report to the governor was influenced by the circular received from the Raj Bhavan. A senior administrative officer from Anna University, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that a report will be sent to the governor’s office shortly after the initial probe by a committee constituted for this purpose.
The university is also expecting notices from both the UGC and AICTE concerning the issue. The ongoing investigation and anticipated reports highlight the seriousness of the allegations and the need for accountability in the affiliation process of private engineering colleges.
