A free bicycle distribution event for female students was held yesterday at the Thiruvennainallur Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Villupuram district. The event was presided over by Collector Palani, with Chief Education Officer Arivalagan delivering the welcome address.Minister Ponmudi distributed bicycles to 208 students from various schools, including Manakkupam Government Higher Secondary School, Emapur Model School, Thiruvennainallur Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School, and Sittalingamadam Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
Speaking at the event, Minister Ponmudi highlighted the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s initiative, the “Pudhumai Penn Scheme,” which aims to promote higher education among female students by providing a monthly assistance of âč1,000.
âThis scheme has significantly increased the number of female students pursuing higher education. To foster a love for Tamil culture among the growing younger generation, the Chief Minister has instructed schools to conduct speech and essay competitions,â said Minister Ponmudi.
Reflecting on the changing times, he added, âGone are the days when students had to walk long distances to attend school. Today, free bicycles are provided, allowing all students to cycle to school. With the times changing, students might soon ask for scooters instead of bicycles. This is a sign of progress.â
Minister Ponmudi expressed confidence in future developments, stating, âIf you ask whether this will happen, I assure you it will. Under the leadership of Udhayanidhi, there will definitely come a time when scooters are provided to you.â
