Rome, Sept 5; In a significant transfer move, AS Roma has signed former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels. The 35-year-old German international, who was a free agent after his contract with Dortmund ended in July, has agreed to a season-long deal with the Serie A club. The transfer fee, reportedly 2.5 million euros ($2.8 million), has not been officially confirmed by the club.
Hummels, renowned for his pivotal role in Germany’s 2014 World Cup victory, brings with him a wealth of experience from his time at Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles and two German Cups. At AS Roma, he will don the number 15 jersey and become the seventh German player to represent the club.
This addition to Roma’s squad is expected to bolster their defensive lineup as they aim to improve their performance in the upcoming Serie A season.
