The Subramaniapuram police have registered a case against senior BJP leader H. Raja under four sections for allegedly making provocative statements that could incite religious unrest in Madurai’s Palanganatham area regarding the Thirupparankundram hill issue.
On February 4, the Hindu Munnani had announced a protest to “protect” Thirupparankundram hill. Anticipating law and order issues, the district administration imposed Section 144 prohibitory orders, placing H. Raja and others under house arrest. When the case was taken up at the Madurai Bench of the High Court, a conditional one-hour protest was permitted in Palanganatham.
Following this ruling, those arrested were released, and they immediately gathered in Palanganatham. H. Raja, who traveled from Karaikudi, addressed the gathering for six minutes, during which he strongly criticized the DMK government over the Thirupparankundram issue.
Taking suo motu action, the Subramaniapuram police booked him under four charges: making statements that could incite religious violence, promoting enmity, disturbing public peace and morality, and violating court orders.
