Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi visited Thangachimadam in Rameswaram, where he met families of fishermen protesting against the Sri Lankan government. He listened to their demands and offered condolences to those affected. He also blamed the 1974 agreement and the then-central government Congress and the then DMK govt, for the ongoing issues faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen.
In response, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S. Raghupathi accused the Governor of misrepresenting history. He stated that CM Karunanidhi had provided evidence that Katchatheevu was part of India and that the DMK had strongly opposed the agreement in Parliament. He also criticized the BJP government for failing to protect Tamil fishermen from Sri Lankan attacks and accused Governor Ravi of spreading false narratives to cover up the Centreâs inaction.
