The much-awaited flyovers in T Nagar and R K Nagar, which have been under construction for nearly two years, will be open to the public by May, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).In T Nagar, alignment issues near Ranganathan Street have been resolved, and work is underway to connect the new 1.2-km-long CIT Nagar flyover with the existing Usman Road flyover. To ensure uniform width, North Usman Road is also being widened.
Initially set for completion by December 2024, the project faced delays due to level mismatches between the new flyover beyond Madley Junction and the existing structure. To address this, the CIT Nagar flyover will now end before Ranganathan Street, with vehicles traveling about 100 meters on a dedicated closed-lane road before merging into the new structure. Once completed, the flyover will provide seamless connectivity from Anna Salai at CIT Nagar to Panagal Park.
Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru announced in the Assembly that both the T Nagar and R K Nagar flyovers will be operational by May, easing traffic congestion in these key areas.
