The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the Class 12 examination results for 2025, with Chennai emerging as one of the top-performing regions in India. The city recorded an impressive pass percentage of 97.39%, placing it third nationwide after Vijayawada (99.60%) and Trivandrum (99.32%).
Among the top regions, southern and metropolitan areas have performed exceptionally well. Bengaluru recorded a pass percentage of 95.95%, while Delhi West and East followed with 95.37% and 95.06%, respectively. However, regions such as Noida (81.29%) and Prayagraj (79.53%) reported the lowest pass rates, highlighting a clear regional divide in performance.
Institution-wise, centrally managed schools maintained their track record of academic excellence. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) recorded a pass rate of 99.29%, followed closely by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) at 99.05% and Central Tibetan Schools at 98.96%. Government-aided schools posted a pass percentage of 91.57%, government schools achieved 90.48%, and private institutions recorded 87.94%.
In terms of gender-wise performance, girls continued to outperform boys with a pass percentage of 91.64%, showing a slight increase from last year’s 91.52%. Boys achieved 85.70%, up from 85.12% in 2024. The gap between girls and boys now stands at 5.94%. A particularly heartening development was the performance of transgender students, who achieved a 100% pass rate this year—an impressive improvement from 50% in 2024.
Chennai’s strong performance reflects the city’s continued focus on quality education, dedicated teachers, and committed students. As CBSE exams grow more competitive and inclusive, these results serve as an encouraging benchmark for other regions across the country.
