Eighteen Maoists surrendered to police in Sukma, Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.Four of them were from a top Maoist unit, the PLGA Battalion No. 1. Two had ₹8 lakh bounties. Others had rewards from ₹2 to ₹5 lakh.
Police said they gave up violence due to the government’s help scheme called ‘Niyad Nellanar’. They were also upset with the Maoists’ actions.
Each surrendered person received ₹50,000 and will get more support from the government.
Last year, over 700 Maoists surrendered in the region. Officials say this is a big step toward peace.
