Coimbatore, June 23: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai on Sunday dismissed rumours of a rift in the DMK-led INDIA bloc, asserting that the alliance remains united and strong.Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Selvaperunthagai accused AIADMK and BJP leaders of “daydreaming” about a possible collapse in the DMK alliance. âOur alliance is firm. There are no weak spots, as claimed by BJP leaders. They are only hoping for confusion to gain politically, but that wonât happen,â he said.
He admitted that minor issues may exist among alliance partners, but assured that these will be sorted out through dialogue. âAll alliance parties are committed to resolving matters amicably,â he added.
Selvaperunthagai also hit out at parties aligning with what he called “fascist forces” in Tamil Nadu, stating that the public is ready to reject them. On questions about the number of Assembly constituencies Congress would contest in 2026, he said the decision rests with the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Criticising the BJP-led Centre, he said the Union Government is denying Tamil Nadu its rightful funds and trying to impose Hindi through a third-language push. He strongly condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shahâs comment that âthose speaking English will soon feel ashamed,â saying the BJP is uncomfortable with people from marginalised communities finding progress through English education.
