A private school student’s suicide in Nellai has ignited widespread anger, leading to relatives protesting violently and setting fire to school buses, causing significant tension in the Veeravanallur area. The incident has prompted a heavy police presence as authorities work to restore calm.
The tragic event unfolded after a 10th-standard student from a private school in Veeravanallur was reportedly admonished by a teacher and instructed to bring his parents to school. Overwhelmed by the situation, the student consumed pesticide on his way to school and tragically succumbed in the hospital yesterday morning after treatment proved unsuccessful.
Enraged by the student’s death, his parents and relatives gathered to protest in front of the Veeravanallur Police Station. During the protest, tensions escalated dramatically as individuals threw petrol bombs at two buses belonging to the school, completely gutting both vehicles. The act of arson intensified the volatile atmosphere in the region. Following the incident, police engaged in discussions with the protestors, assuring them that appropriate action would be taken regarding the student’s suicide. Subsequently, the crowd dispersed, and additional police forces have been deployed in Veeravanallur as a precautionary measure to prevent further disturbances.
