The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced temporary traffic changes on TTK Road to facilitate repair work on a damaged rainwater drainage system. The work, which spans a 230-meter stretch between the Alwarpet Signal and Sriman Srinivasa Road, began on August 11, 2025, and is expected to cause some congestion. To manage the flow of vehicles, the Alwarpet flyover has been temporarily converted into a two-lane road. This flyover is now restricted to two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other light motor vehicles.
Meanwhile, MTC buses and heavy vehicles have been rerouted to ease congestion. Heavy vehicles heading towards the Music Academy on TTK Road are instructed to use the Alwarpet Flyover Service Road, take a left at the Alwarpet Junction, proceed via Murrays Gate Road, and then turn right onto Seshadri Road and Kasthuri Rangan Road to reach their destination.
For heavy vehicles and MTC buses traveling towards Mylapore, the new route involves using the Alwarpet Flyover Service Road, making a right turn at Alwarpet Junction, and continuing on to Luz Church Road and Musiri Subramaniam Road before turning left onto P.S. Sivasamy Salai. Vehicles heading towards Alwarpet on TTK Road can bypass the flyover by using the service road.
