Forest and Khadi Minister R.S. Rajakannappan has said that actor Vijay cannot match the political legacy of M.G. Ramachandran (MGR).Speaking to reporters in Kolathur, he noted that MGR spent 30 years with the DMK before forming his own party—a foundation that enabled his success. In contrast, Vijay entered politics abruptly and without a solid support base. “Just talking about Periyar won’t be enough,” he said.
Rajakannappan also compared Vijay’s popularity rally to a mere film event. “Gathering fans in a conference doesn’t mean votes. Even children come to watch their favourite stars,” he added.
He further commented on the current state of AIADMK, calling it “no longer a functioning party.” According to him, many of its workers have already joined the DMK. He confidently predicted that in the next Assembly elections, DMK could win over 200 seats, while AIADMK may earn less than seven in southern districts. He also forecasted a clean sweep of 33 seats in the region for DMK.
