Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to launch air-conditioned micro buses to enhance last-mile connectivity for metro commuters. These compact buses will connect metro stations to nearby neighborhoods, covering a 5 km radius and linking up to 41 stations. This initiative aims to provide a seamless travel experience for passengers, especially in areas with limited public transport options. The project is currently awaiting approval from the transport department. Once authorized, the AC micro buses will operate on fixed routes, offering a comfortable and efficient mode of transport for metro users. This move is part of CMRL’s ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and encourage greater use of public transportation.
The introduction of these micro buses is expected to significantly reduce the reliance on private vehicles, thereby alleviating traffic congestion and contributing to environmental sustainability. By providing convenient access to metro stations, CMRL aims to make public transport more accessible and attractive to commuters across Chennai.
