Kyiv, Sept 29: At least four people were killed and ten others wounded during a severe missile and drone assault by Russia on Ukraine, particularly impacting the capital, Kyiv.
This attack marks the first significant bombardment since a prior incident that resulted in 21 fatalities. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration, reported the casualties, which included a 12-year-old girl.
The strikes targeted civilian areas, including residential buildings, a medical facility, and a kindergarten, with damage observed at over 20 locations, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Eyewitness accounts from Kyiv’s central train station described a tense environment, with air raid alerts causing anxiety among waiting passengers.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha characterized the offensive as involving “hundreds of drones and missiles” and called for escalating costs for Russia’s military actions.
Meanwhile, Poland’s military implemented preventative measures by deploying fighter jets following the attacks.\
Recent Russian activities, including drones landing in Poland and fighter aircraft entering Estonian airspace, have raised international concerns about a potential expansion of conflict beyond Ukraine.
This bombardment coincided with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s announcement of a significant USD 90 billion arms deal with the United States, which includes a procurement of Ukrainian-drones. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its air defenses intercepted 41 Ukrainian drones during this time.
