In a shocking development linked to the Karur stampede, a local functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has died by suicide, leaving behind a note that blames DMK leader and former minister Senthil Balaji for the tragedy. The deceased, identified as Ayyappan (52), was a branch secretary of TVK in Virudhunagar district. He was found hanging at his residence on Tuesday. In his suicide note, Ayyappan alleged that when TVK chief Vijay visited Karur, proper security was not provided and that the mishandling of arrangements led to the fatal stampede. He directly held Senthil Balaji responsible and demanded that he be arrested.
Police have recovered the note and sent the body for post-mortem. An investigation is underway into the claims and circumstances surrounding Ayyappan’s death.
The Karur rally on September 27 saw a massive crowd surge during Vijay’s arrival, which led to chaos and panic. At least 41 people lost their lives and several others were injured. The incident has triggered political blame games, arrests over rumor-mongering, and demands for a transparent probe.
