The Tamil Nadu Government has announced the automation of driving testing tracks across 20 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in the state, aiming to enhance transparency, efficiency, and uniformity in driving tests. As part of this initiative, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, will automate the existing conventional driving testing tracks.
In the first phase, 10 RTO locations have been identified for automation during the financial year 2025ā26. A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed at the State Secretariat between the Tamil Nadu Government and Maruti Suzuki in the presence of Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar. Representing Maruti Suzuki were Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Head (CSR); R. Kalyan Sunder, General Manager (Road Safety); and Tushar Johri, Deputy General Manager (Road Safety).
The MoA aligns with the announcement made by the Transport Minister in the 2023ā24 Legislative Assembly session. The partnership leverages advanced technology to automate driving tests, ensuring that assessments are more consistent, efficient, and transparent.
Officials said the automation initiative is expected to significantly improve road safety standards in Tamil Nadu by reducing human error and standardising the testing process. It will also facilitate faster evaluation and accurate reporting of candidatesā performance across all participating RTOs.
With the phased rollout, the government and Maruti Suzuki aim to modernise the stateās driving test system, providing a model for other states to enhance road safety and promote technology-driven governance in transport services.
