Ajith Kumar’s iconic 25th film, Amarkalam, is set for a theatrical re-release nearly 26 years after its original debut. Directed by Saran, who collaborated with Ajith for the second time, the film is celebrated as a landmark in both Ajith’s career and personal life. It was on this film’s set that Ajith and his co-star Shalini developed a bond that eventually led to their marriage in 2000. The re-release has been promoted with a new poster highlighting the tagline, “An Epic Love Story.”Amarkalam tells the story of Vasu, a rebellious orphan and local rowdy, whose life takes a dramatic turn when he is hired to kidnap Mohana, the daughter of a police commissioner. However, a bond forms between them, leading to a complex narrative of love, pain, and redemption.
The film features music by Bharadwaj, cinematography by A Venkatesh, and editing by Suresh Urs. It was produced by Venkateswaralayam, the same banner behind the film Kadhal Mannan.
This re-release serves as a homage to one of Ajith’s defining films, reigniting the romance and action that made Amarkalam a memorable hit. It offers audiences a chance to revisit the compelling performances and engaging storyline that solidified Ajith’s place in Tamil cinema. Fans eagerly await the chance to experience this cinematic gem once again on the big screen.
