Tamil Nadu BJP State President Nainar Nagendran has criticized the DMK government for allegedly failing to fulfill its 2021 election promise of building 200 check dams at a cost of ₹2,000 crore.In a social media post, Nagendran pointed out that districts like Perambalur and Ariyalur continue to suffer from drought, citing that the lack of promised check dams has contributed to water scarcity affecting both drinking water supply and agriculture.
Nagendran referred specifically to Election Manifesto Promise No. 90, which assured the construction of check dams in key river and catchment areas such as Maruthaiyar (Thirumanur), Tha.Pazhūr, Kollidam (Kuruvaadi), Puliyangombai (near Kattaru), Kunderi, Punjai Pugalur, Nanniyur, and Kulithalai.
He alleged that the government’s failure to fulfill this promise has worsened drought conditions in the region, leaving people with little access to water for basic needs.
He further criticized the DMK’s claims of having implemented 99% of its election promises, calling such statements shameful in the current situation. Nagendran concluded that if the DMK continues to ignore its commitments, its day of being removed from power in Tamil Nadu will not be far away.
