Riyadh, Nov 6: Defending champion Coco Gauff revived her hopes of advancing at the WTA Finals by beating Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2.Gauff improved her serve, hitting only three double faults compared to 17 in her first match loss to Jessica Pegula.Gauff admitted the win was “a big mental win” and said the tournament gave her another chance to prove herself.
Now, she faces world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a crucial match to decide who moves forward. Paolini has been eliminated after losing both her matches.
Gauff noted Paolini was not at her best, as playing singles and doubles in the same tournament is tough. Sabalenka currently leads the group with two wins, following her victory over Pegula.
This win keeps the competition open for Gauff in the season-ending event, as she aims to defend her WTA Finals title.
