A controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu after it was noticed that several state government buses no longer display the words “Tamil Nadu” on their front panels. The issue has triggered strong political reactions, with Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman questioning the government over the omission.Seeman alleged that government buses earlier carried the full title “Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation,” but the words “Tamil Nadu” have now been removed, leaving only “State Transport Corporation.” He criticised the move as disrespectful to the identity and pride of the state.
Raising sharp questions, Seeman asked whether the omission was due to a shortage of paint, administrative negligence, or a deliberate decision. He pointed out that buses in other states prominently display their state names, and Tamil Nadu should be no exception.
Political groups and social activists have also demanded that the state government immediately restore the full name on buses, stressing that Tamil Nadu’s identity must be displayed with pride.
The government is yet to formally respond to the issue, even as the debate continues to gain momentum across the state.
