Minister Periyasamy responds to Manickam Tagore’s remarks

Tamil Nadu Minister I. Periyasamy has responded to recent comments made by Congress MP Manickam Tagore, saying that the state government will issue a reply only when the leaders of the movement formally speak on the matter. Periyasamy was speaking to reporters in Dindigul, addressing criticisms from Tagore, who had highlighted perceived delays by the ruling coalition in responding to political issues and questioned the government’s administrative capacity. Periyasamy rejected Tagore’s suggestion that the absence of a timely reply showed a lack of administrative capability, asserting that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is recognised as one of the most capable governing organisations in India and that Tamil Nadu continues to develop across sectors. He emphasised that official responses are directed by party leadership, and noted that Tagore’s frequent statements did not have the party’s endorsement. The minister also addressed economic and welfare issues, defending the state’s handling of social programmes such as senior citizen pensions in Dindigul. He pointed out that previous administrations had left high debt and that the current government is working to restore welfare benefits to eligible citizens. Periyasamy highlighted recent pension distributions and underlined the government’s focus on social support and rural development.
