The Tamil Nadu government has appointed officials to key election duty positions ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, aiming to ensure smooth and efficient conduct of the poll process across the state. The list of appointments was released on 13 February 2026, with several senior administrators assigned specific election responsibilities.
According to the notification, District Election Officers, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, and other designated officials have been identified for each constituency. Additional officers will support supervision of polling stations, voter facilitation measures, counting arrangements and model code of conduct enforcement during the election period.
The releases included contingency officers and supervisory staff to oversee logistics, security coordination with law enforcement, and voter outreach initiatives. Officials said the appointments are part of preparatory steps to ensure transparency and fairness when voters head to the polls later this year.
State election authorities have also asked the appointed officers to complete pre‑election training sessions, familiarise themselves with the latest electronic voting machine (EVM) procedures, and work closely with the Election Commission of India to implement all electoral guidelines. The government said further instructions will be shared as the election schedule is finalised.
