Chennai, April 3:
In a significant administrative move ahead of the Assembly elections, senior IPS officer Sandeep Roy Rathore has been appointed as the Director General of Police (Law & Order), Tamil Nadu.
The appointment was made following directions from the Election Commission of India as part of measures to ensure a neutral and fair law enforcement environment during the poll period. Incumbent DGP (Law & Order) G. Venkataraman has been transferred.
A 1992-batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, Rathore brings extensive experience in policing and administration. He has previously served in key positions, including Commissioner of Police, Chennai, and headed the Police Training Academy. He is known for his role in handling sensitive investigations and urban policing challenges.
The reshuffle is part of a broader exercise that has also seen the transfer of several senior officials, including district collectors and police commissioners, in line with election protocols.
The DGP (Law & Order) holds a crucial role during elections, overseeing statewide security arrangements, deployment of police personnel, and maintenance of peace to ensure smooth and incident-free polling.
