Chennai, Apr 8:
Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) president G K Vasan on Tuesday appealed to voters not to support parties that, he claimed, fail to respect temples and religious sentiments.
Campaigning for AMMK candidate Karthikeyan in Tiruvaiyaru, Vasan said Tamil Nadu must “wipe out” the DMK in the upcoming Assembly elections, accusing the ruling party of not fulfilling the promises made in 2021.
Recalling the AIADMK regime under Edappadi K Palaniswami, he highlighted welfare measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said despite financial constraints, the government appointed doctors and nurses, provided free meals three times a day, and distributed Rs 2,500 as Pongal assistance to ration cardholders.
Stepping up his attack, Vasan alleged that the law and order situation in the state has worsened under the DMK government. He claimed that women’s safety has declined and urged women voters to support a change in power.
Referring to Tiruvaiyaru’s religious significance, he said the DMK does not give due importance to temples and religious sentiments, yet seeks votes during elections. “People should reject a party that does not respect religion,” he asserted.
Vasan also noted that the Union government has introduced several schemes to support women’s self-employment and continues to assist the state despite political differences.
Later, he campaigned for AIADMK candidate Leema Rose in Lalgudi constituency.
