Chennai, Apr 16:
Durai Vaiko, Principal Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and Tiruchy MP, on Wednesday urged the AIADMK to join the growing chorus of opposition against the Union government’s proposed delimitation exercise, stressing that it is crucial to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s interests.
In a statement, he alleged that the Centre had tabled the delimitation draft in haste, coinciding with Assembly elections in multiple states, and questioned the timing of the move.
Emphasising the need for a united stand, he said that with several political parties already opposing the proposal, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) should also come forward and voice its dissent.
Durai Vaiko warned that the proposed delimitation, if implemented, could reduce Tamil Nadu’s representation in the Lok Sabha and weaken its political voice at the national level.
“The AIADMK should act immediately and join the collective effort to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu,” he said, calling for broader political unity on the issue.
