Bengal Election Result 2026: BJP crosses majority mark in Bengal trends

In a historic turn of events for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP-led alliance has crossed the majority mark of 148 seats in the early counting trends.

This surge represents a massive shift in the state’s political landscape, with the BJP maintaining a comfortable lead well past the halfway mark as results continue to trickle in from 77 counting centers.

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is currently leading in approximately 105 seats, a significant drop from its 2021 performance, as it struggles to counter the momentum gained by the opposition in both urban and rural blocks.

In the high-stakes battle for Bhabanipur, the situation remains incredibly fluid; while early trends showed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee trailing, the latest updates indicate she has regained a narrow lead over the BJP’s challenger in a see-saw contest.

Meanwhile, the Left-Congress alliance is showing signs of a minor recovery, leading in a handful of seats after being completely shut out of the Assembly in the previous election cycle.

The counting process is being closely watched following a record 92.47% voter turnout and the controversial deletion of nearly 91 lakh names from the voter rolls earlier this year during a special revision.

Election officials expect more definitive results by the afternoon, though the BJP’s current lead suggests they are on the verge of a historic breakthrough in the state if the trends hold through the final rounds of EVM counting.

Security has been intensified across West Bengal to prevent any post-result volatility as both major camps brace for the final verdict of this intensely polarized election.
