Chennai, May 15:

The administrative reshuffle initiated by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay following the ascent of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government is gathering pace, with a fresh round of transfers affecting several senior police officials across Tamil Nadu.

Among the key changes, Director General of Police S Davidson Devasirvatham and Inspector General KA Senthil Velan—both of whom had been placed in compulsory wait by the Election Commission—have now been reassigned to comparatively less influential roles. Devasirvatham, who previously headed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, has been appointed as Chief Vigilance Officer of the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (Aavin), replacing Rajeev Kumar. Meanwhile, Senthil Velan has been posted as Additional Director at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy, while Rajeev Kumar takes over as DGP (Training).

The shake-up extends significantly into the intelligence apparatus, signalling a recalibration of the state’s internal security framework. DGP Bala Naga Devi has been moved from the Intelligence wing to head the Cybercrime wing. Several other officers, including G Dharmarajan, Pakerla Cephas Kalyan, and P Saravanan, have been reassigned to key intelligence roles in Chennai, replacing incumbents across security, internal intelligence, and CID divisions.

At the Superintendent of Police level too, the reshuffle is extensive, covering units such as the Organised Crime Intelligence Unit, Special Branch CID, and Security Branch CID. Officers from districts including Tiruvarur, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi have been brought into Chennai-based intelligence roles, indicating a consolidation of experienced personnel within critical urban and security functions.

The latest transfers underscore the new government’s effort to realign the state machinery, particularly the police and intelligence network, in line with its administrative priorities. With several officials associated with the previous regime being reassigned, the overhaul reflects both a shift in governance style and an attempt to reassert institutional control during the early phase of the TVK administration.
