Chennai, May 22:
In a key administrative reshuffle, senior IPS officer A. Amalraj has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Greater Chennai City. He replaces Abhin Dinesh Modak, who has been posted as Additional Director General of Police in the Crime Branch-CID.
A 1996-batch Indian Police Service officer, Dr. Amalraj is regarded as one of the most experienced officers in the Tamil Nadu cadre. He previously served as Commissioner of Police in Tambaram across two tenures, where he earned recognition for his administrative efficiency and policing initiatives.
Over his career, Amalraj has held several prominent positions, including Commissioner of Police in Salem, Coimbatore and Tiruchi. He has also led the Central and West Zones of the Tamil Nadu Police, overseeing law and order across vast regions of the State.
Earlier, as Superintendent of Police, he served in districts such as Theni, Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Salem, gaining extensive grassroots policing experience. His appointment to the Chennai city police comes at a crucial time, with expectations of strengthened law enforcement and administrative coordination in the State capital.
