Chennai, May 30:

DMK deputy general secretary and Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Friday expressed serious concern over a spate of recent crimes in Tamil Nadu, questioning the TVK government’s handling of what she described as a deteriorating law and order situation in the State.

In a statement posted on X, Kanimozhi referred to recent incidents including the murder of a young woman in Cuddalore, where the victim’s body was allegedly buried after the crime, and the killing of a youth in Thoothukudi following a dispute with friends.

“The TVK government must realise the seriousness of the increasing law and order issues and act immediately,” she said, urging swift and decisive action to curb such incidents.

Kanimozhi also raised questions over the status of the special task force for women’s safety that had been announced by the government. The initiative, which was expected to be launched recently, appears to have been delayed, she noted.

“Why has the special task force for women’s safety been put on hold? What measures is the government planning to take to prevent such crimes from recurring?” she asked.

Her remarks come amid growing political criticism over public safety concerns, with opposition leaders demanding greater accountability and proactive measures from the State government.
