Chennai, June 1:

A night of celebration turned into a chilling tragedy in Koyambedu after a nightclub brawl escalated into a deadly act of violence, claiming the life of an 18-year-old Sri Lankan Tamil girl. The victim, identified as Yancy, was allegedly chased and rammed by a car driven by a group of enraged youth following an altercation inside a nightclub. Her 17-year-old friend, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

According to police, the incident began with a verbal duel on the dance floor that quickly spiralled into a physical confrontation. Though bouncers managed to defuse the situation and escort both parties out, tensions reignited outside the club and later on the road as the girls headed towards Tirumangalam. The accused gang reportedly chased them, hurled stones, and ultimately rammed their two-wheeler at high speed, killing Yancy on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Swift police action, aided by CCTV footage, led to the arrest of three suspects—Balaguru (21), Joshua (19), and Kishore Kumar (19)—with the vehicle used in the crime also seized. Special teams are now on the hunt for the remaining culprits. Preliminary reports reveal that Yancy was residing in a rehabilitation camp in Villupuram and had travelled to Chennai to meet a friend when the horrific incident unfolded, raising serious concerns over urban safety and unchecked youth violence.
