Chennai, July 7:
The Madras High Court has directed Chief Minister Vijay, Minister Aadhav Arjuna, and former Minister E. V. Velu, among others, to file their responses in connection with election petitions challenging their victories in various constituencies.
Petitions were filed against Vijay’s win from Perambur by DMK candidate R.T. Sekar and voters, and also against his victory in Tiruchy East by DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj. When the cases came up before Justice Lakshmi Narayanan, the court asked petitioners to rectify defects in their filings and directed the respondents to submit replies within three weeks.
Similarly, election petitions challenging results in Villivakkam, Tiruvannamalai, Perundurai, Kulachal, Uthangarai, Salem North, and Sirkazhi constituencies came up before Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy. The court issued directions to correct deficiencies in the petitions and ordered the respective MLAs to respond.
In total, 12 election petitions were listed before two judges, with the High Court directing issuance of notices to all concerned parties
