Atlanta, July 20:

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, securing their second world title after a dominant performance at MetLife Stadium.

Spain controlled the match from start to finish, keeping Lionel Messi quiet and denying Argentina any attacking rhythm. The defending champions failed to register a shot for the first 70 minutes as Spain dictated possession and tempo.

The decisive moment came in extra time when Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute, finishing a move created by Nico Williams to seal the title.

Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez produced several crucial saves to keep his side in the contest, but Spain’s relentless pressure finally paid off. Argentina’s task became harder after Enzo Fernandez was sent off late in normal time.

Spain’s midfield, led by Rodri, ensured complete control, while young stars like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams stretched the Argentine defence throughout the match.

Despite a late push, Argentina could not find an equaliser, ending Messi’s hopes of adding another World Cup title
