Chennai, July 22:
To manage the surge in weekend travel, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTC) will operate 1,635 special buses across the State from July 24 to 26, supplementing regular services.
According to officials from the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC), the additional services have been arranged as thousands of passengers are expected to travel to their hometowns.
Advance bookings have already crossed 15,900 passengers and are likely to rise further. Of these, 6,487 passengers have booked tickets for Friday, 2,387 for Saturday and 7,089 for Sunday.
A significant number of special buses will operate from the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) at Kilambakkam. As per the plan, 395 special buses will be run on Friday and 330 on Saturday to handle the increased passenger flow.
Officials said the move aims to ease congestion at major bus terminals and ensure smooth travel for passengers during the weekend rush.
