Glasgow, July 29:

India delivered a strong all-round performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, highlighted by a historic silver medal from Gulveer Singh in the men’s 10,000m event.

Gulveer’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian long-distance running on the Commonwealth stage, showcasing endurance and consistency against a competitive field. His performance stood out as one of the defining moments of the day for the Indian contingent.

In weightlifting, Harjinder Kaur added to the medal tally with a silver, continuing India’s impressive tradition in the sport. Her effort further strengthened India’s position in the overall standings.

Boxing also brought positive news, with three Indian pugilists advancing to the semi-finals, thereby assuring the country of at least three more medals, as all semi-finalists are guaranteed podium finishes.

With these results, India’s medal tally rose to 12 medals — including 2 gold, 7 silver, and 3 bronze — placing the nation within the top 10 in the standings. The assured medals from boxing are expected to push the tally further in the coming days.

Overall, it was a productive day for India, marked by resilience, depth across disciplines, and promising performances that underline the country’s growing stature in international sport.
