The wait is over. The makers of Mahakali have unveiled the first glimpse of the highly anticipated Indian historical spectacle, offering audiences a striking preview of the epic world envisioned by filmmaker Prasanth Varma.
Titled #Shukracharya’sWarCry, the 2-minute-55-second glimpse also announces the film’s theatrical release date — January 8, 2027.
The glimpse sets the stage for a massive conflict between Dharma and Adharma, hinting at a war that goes far beyond the conventional battle between good and evil. Led by Shukracharya, the formidable guru of the Asuras, the conflict appears poised to determine the fate of an entire world.
The major highlight is Akshaye Khanna, who makes a fierce and almost unrecognisable appearance as Shukracharya. With an intense gaze and commanding screen presence, the actor brings gravitas to the powerful character, offering audiences their first substantial look at his portrayal.
Sriya Reddy also makes a striking appearance in the glimpse, adding further mystery to the unfolding narrative.
The footage showcases the film’s expansive visual world, featuring elaborate production design, large-scale world-building and visual effects. The imagery hints at an ambitious cinematic spectacle that seeks to bring Indian mythology and Itihasa to the big screen on a grand scale.
Following Hanu-Man, which laid the foundation for the PVCU — Purana Veera Chitra Udyam, Mahakali is positioned as the next instalment in the cinematic universe and appears to take the franchise into an even larger world of storytelling and spectacle.
Presented by RK Duggal and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner, Mahakali is directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru.
The film stars Bhoomi Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sriya Reddy, Rohit Saraf, Khushboo Sundar, Rakesh Bedi, Samuthirakani, Jitin Gulati, Rajat Kapoor, Murali Sharma, Nassar and Babloo Prithveeraj.
Mahakali is set to hit theatres on January 8, 2027.
