London, Aug. 27:

Pakistan batter Babar Azam has been declared fit and is available for selection for the second Test against England at Lord’s, providing a major boost to Pakistan ahead of the crucial match.

Babar’s availability is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s batting line-up as the visitors seek to respond strongly in the Test series.

The former Pakistan captain remains one of the country’s most accomplished contemporary batters and has been a key figure in the team’s middle order across formats.

His fitness had been a matter of concern ahead of the Lord’s Test, but he has now been cleared to play following assessment of his condition.

Pakistan’s batting will be under pressure to deliver against an England attack capable of exploiting conditions in England, particularly with the new ball.

Babar’s experience at Lord’s and in English conditions could prove valuable as Pakistan attempt to build partnerships and withstand the pressure generated by the hosts.

The second Test assumes added importance in the context of the series, with both teams looking to gain the upper hand.

Pakistan’s management will now have to decide on Babar’s exact position and the balance of the playing XI, taking into account the conditions and performances in the opening Test.

For Babar, a strong innings at Lord’s would also provide an opportunity to regain momentum and reinforce his importance to Pakistan’s Test batting unit.

The availability of one of Pakistan’s premier batters has added another talking point ahead of the highly anticipated Test at the historic London venue.
