Mumbai, Sept 1:
Veteran social activist Anna Hazare was admitted to the ICU of Bombay Hospital in Mumbai on Monday after his health deteriorated, with reports indicating that he was shifted from his native Ralegan Siddhi for advanced medical treatment.
The 87-year-old activist had initially been undergoing treatment near his village in Maharashtra. He was subsequently moved to Mumbai after complications associated with a severe viral infection, dehydration and concerns over kidney function.
Hazare is currently under continuous medical observation in the ICU. Dr Gautam Bansal is overseeing his treatment, while doctors are conducting detailed diagnostic examinations to assess his condition and determine the further course of treatment.
Reports said his health had worsened despite receiving treatment in his native area, prompting doctors to recommend shifting him to Mumbai where advanced medical facilities are available.
An official medical update on his condition is expected after the diagnostic tests are completed.
The development has triggered concern among Hazare’s supporters and well-wishers across the country, with messages wishing him a speedy recovery.
Hazare, who has been active in social reform for several decades, rose to national prominence through his campaigns against corruption and for greater transparency in public administration.
He played a prominent role in campaigns demanding a stronger anti-corruption framework, including the movement for the Jan Lokpal Bill. He has also been associated with the campaign for the Right to Information Act and several initiatives concerning rural development and social reform.
His health condition is being closely monitored by doctors, with further details expected following the medical evaluation.
