New Delhi,  Sept 7:
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the loss of lives in the collapse of a five-storey building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area.
President Murmu conveyed her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also described the incident as distressing and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and said authorities were working at the site to assist those affected.
The building, reportedly being used as a paying guest accommodation for students, collapsed on Sunday while repair work was under way. Rescue teams, including personnel from the NDRF, Delhi Fire Service and police, were deployed to search the debris and rescue those trapped.
The incident has triggered concern over the safety of student accommodation in the Satya Niketan area, where several paying guest facilities operate.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the collapse, while rescue and relief operations continue.
