Chennai, Sept 18:
AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has accused the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government of failing to curb corruption and alleged that corruption had increased since the new government assumed office.
Speaking to reporters, Palaniswami alleged that the government had failed to address several key issues, including corruption, law and order, inflation, drug abuse and farmers’ problems. He also alleged that the Chief Minister was not directly responding to questions raised by the Opposition in the Assembly.
Palaniswami claimed that corruption had increased “multifold” under the TVK government. He referred to an alleged FQL funds scam and claimed that lakhs of people had lost money to a private company, while questioning why action had not been taken against those allegedly responsible.
He also criticised the government over the law-and-order situation, alleging that incidents of murder, robbery, theft and sexual harassment had continued. Palaniswami said the government was responsible for preventing such crimes and questioned its handling of the issue.
Palaniswami further accused the government of failing to adequately address farmers’ concerns, including paddy procurement and water availability for cultivation.
